Wooden stake leads to weapons charge in St. Thomas

A man is facing charges after police in St. Thomas received multiple calls about someone who was seen waving around a wooden stake.

The calls came in around 8 p.m. Saturday night. According to police, the man was waving the stake at vehicles that were travelling along Talbot Street near St. Catharine Street.

The man ended up allegedly striking one of the vehicles, causing damage to the passenger front door. As a result, the 38-year-old from West Lorne was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000, and causing a disturbance.

While officers were processing the man, a separate criminal investigation was initiated by police resulting from an earlier intimate partner violence occurrence. He was additionally charged with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and breach of release order.

The man was held in custody for a court appearance.
