Snow covered London braces for more of the white stuff Friday

Heavy snow squalls have left people in the London region with some serious shoveling to do Friday.

According to Environment Canada, 11 cm of snow fell at the London International Airport by 6 a.m., while areas to the west of the city received a much higher amount.

"The most intense band of squalls was running through Grand Bend into areas west of the London airport. So those areas will have received the most snowfall, but we haven't yet received accumulation totals from those spots," said Environment Canada Meteorologist Yoseph Mengesha.

The snow began piling up in some areas on Thursday with the heaviest snow falling in the evening into Friday morning.

As of 5:30 p.m. Friday, all snow squall watches and warnings have ended for the area.

The City of London tweeted that its plows and salt trucks are out clearing main arteries and bus routes. Secondary and residential streets will likely remain snow covered for much of the day. Sidewalk plows are also working to clear the way for pedestrians.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and leave extra time to get to their destination as snow covered roads can be very difficult to navigate.
