Charges have been laid against a London man after police stopped a stolen vehicle with two sawed-off firearms and various ammunition inside.
London police were in the area of Springbank Drive and Wharncliffe Road around 3 p.m. Tuesday when they spotted a sedan with licence plates that had been reported stolen hours earlier. Once the vehicle stopped on Orchard Street, officers were able to arrest the driver without incident.
Police determined the vehicle had been stolen a day earlier from the area of Lyle and Dundas streets.
A sawed-off .22 calibre rifle with the serial number removed, a sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun, 99 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun shells, five rounds of 20 gauge shotgun shells, and several .22 calibre rifle rounds were seized during the traffic stop.
A 34-year-old London man is charged with ten offences including possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, careless storage of a firearm, occupying a vehicle with a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered, and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.
The man is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on Wednesday.
