Residents forced to flee apartment due to kitchen fire

Tenants of a high-rise on Richmond Street were temporarily displaced when a fire sparked in the kitchen of one of the units.

London fire responded to the apartment building located on 1231 Richmond Street just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Crews worked to quickly put out the fire and spent some time after ventilating the building.

Firefighters reported the cause of the fire was a combustible item being placed on a stovetop.

"This was an accidental fire, but preventable," the fire department said in a tweet.

No one was injured during the fire and damages are estimated at $3,000.
