Man charged after break-ins at two different eyewear stores

Charges have been laid against a man accused of stealing numerous glasses during break-ins at two separate eyewear businesses in London.

The first break-in happened at the Hakim Optical at 725 Wellington Road South around 7 p.m. on January 1. A man was captured on surveillance video going into the business and swiping multiple pairs of glasses.

One week later, a surveillance camera recorded a man breaking into the Einstein's Optical at 260 Blue Forest Drive. The man is alleged to have stole several more pairs of glasses before running from the store to a waiting vehicle.

London police determined the same individual was responsible for both break-ins and were able to identify a suspect using the surveillance footage.

A 31-year-old London man was arrested on Monday. He is charged with two count of break and enter and theft and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on Tuesday.
