Hit-and-run suspects arrested after crashing into police cruisers

Charges have been laid against a man and woman accused of taking off from a head-on collision one day and then trying to run again after hitting two police cruisers the next.

Woodstock police were left searching for a grey Volkswagen Jetta after a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon in the area of Riddell Street and Grace Street. The Jetta took off from the scene following the crash, police said.

Officers spotted the suspect vehicle around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Wellington and Peel streets and tried to pull it over. In an attempt to get away, the vehicle crashed into two police cruisers and another vehicle.

Two suspects then hopped out of the Jetta and took off running. Officers gave chase and arrested the pair without further incident.

Police seized fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and stolen property while searching the suspects.

A 25-year-old Ingersoll man is charged with a dozen offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without insurance, failure to stop after a crash, flight from police, and possession of drugs.

A 25-year-old St. Marys woman is charged with two counts of possession of drugs, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and possession of counterfeit money.

No one was hurt in the collisions.
