The Humane Society London and Middlesex (HSLM) has landed a $10,000 grant that will allow it to spay and neuter nearly 80 additional animals in its care.
The non-profit organization received the five-figure donation from the PetSmart Charities of Canada on Wednesday. The money will help to shorten the stays of animals at the shelter as pets in the humane society's care are required to be spay or neuter before they can be put up for adoption.
"Spay/neuter surgeries are part of the primary care shelter pets receive during their time at HSLM. Our shelter receives zero government funding and relies solely on the support of individual and corporate donors," HSLM Executive Director Steve Ryall said in a statement. "This grant will provide necessary surgeries for pets in our shelter today."
On average, the humane society typically cares for more than 250 animals at its Clarke Road facility on a daily basis.
“With this funding, we are thrilled to support HSLM’s efforts to both shorten shelter stays for homeless pets and proactively reduce the homeless pet population throughout the area,” said Charlotte Palmer, associate relationship manager at PetSmart Charities of Canada. "This work will help even more pets find loving homes while freeing up space for additional pets in need.”
PetSmart Charities of Canada, in partnership with humane societies, SPCAs and Canadian pet rescues, has helped more than 330,000 pets find new homes through its in-store adoption program.
