If you were dreaming of a white Christmas, you are in luck.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of southwestern Ontario ahead of a Christmas Eve storm packing a mix of precipitation including heavy snow. London-Middlesex, Elgin County, Oxford County, and Huron-Perth are all included in the special weather statement.
What will begin as rain late Wednesday night will transition to snow Thursday afternoon as the temperature plummets due to a low pressure system moving into the region. During the changeover from rain to snow there is a possibility of freezing rain and ice pellets.
The snow, which will be heavy at times, is expected to continue into Christmas Day Friday with between 5 cm to 15 cm possible.
The exact track of the low pressure system remains uncertain, according to the national weather agency.
"This will ultimately affect how much snow may fall at a particular location," Environment Canada's special weather statement said.
Drivers are advised to prepare for difficult travel conditions throughout the weather event as the freezing rain and heavy snow could leave roads icy and reduce visibility.
