Charges laid after party breaks COVID-19 rules

Several people are facing charges under the Reopening Ontario Act after London police broke up a party that had more guests than allowed.

Around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to a noise complaint at a home on King Street near Lyle Street. When they arrived, they saw 10 people inside, none of whom appeared to be wearing masks.

Under the Red-Control level of the province's COVID-19 Response Framework, the maximum number of people allowed inside at a social gathering is five.

"These gathering limits are in place for the health and well-being of everyone, and we will not hesitate to take appropriate action when our community is put at risk," police said in a news release issued Friday.

Police say a a 25-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, and a 21-year-old woman, all of London, are charged with hosting an indoor gathering which exceeded number permitted and participating in an indoor gathering which exceeded number permitted.

A 25-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, two 24-year-old men, a 23-year-old man, and a 23-year-old woman, all of London, are charged with participating in an indoor gathering which exceeded number permitted.

All are to appear in court in March.
