Two schools in St. Thomas and three in London are the latest in the region to confirm new cases of COVID-19.
The Thames Valley District School Board said two cases of the virus were detected at Westminster Secondary School in London on Tuesday, bringing the number of active cases at the high school to five. The local health unit has since declared an outbreak at Westminster.
The school board also reported another two cases each at Parkside Collegiate Institute and Elgin Court Public School in St. Thomas.
A single case of the virus was confirmed at Sir Arthur Currie Public School in London, bringing the number of active cases at the school to four.
And one confirmed case of COVID-19 was detected at Rick Hansen Public School in London.
Parents, guardians, and staff at all of the schools have been notified and Southwestern Public Health and the Middlesex-London Health Unit are working to identify close contacts of the infected individuals.
"If you are not contacted by the health unit, your child is not considered to be at risk. The health unit will only contact those staff and students who have been identified as a close contact and will advise them to stay home from school and quarantine for a period of 14 days," the school board said in a statement.
All five schools remain open, including Westminster, and buses are continuing to operate as normal.
There are currently 25 active COVID-19 cases in school communities within the Thames Valley district. For the full list of confirmed COVID-19 cases within the school board click here.
