Sawed-off shotgun, meth seized in stolen vehicle stop

Four people are facing drugs and weapons charges after London police stopped a stolen vehicle alleged to have a loaded, sawed-off rifle and crystal methamphetamine inside.

An officer first spotted the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Colborne Street and Queens Avenue around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday. The officer ran the vehicle's plate which revealed it had been stolen from Sarnia on October 28.

Backup was called before police stopped the vehicle in the area of Richmond and Piccadilly Streets. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded. 22 caliber sawed-off rifle, 13 rounds of ammunition, suspected crystal methamphetamine, and ten stolen licence plates.

Three men and a woman were arrested without incident.

A 52-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 34-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, all from London, are charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, careless storage of a firearm/ammunition, possession of a firearm without a licence, and occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm.

The 52-year-old man faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order. The 33-year-old man is additionally charged with driving while prohibited and failure to comply with undertaking, while the 34-year-old man faces two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance.
