COVID-19 case confirmed at London Catholic elementary school

A case of COVID-19 has been identified at Sir Arthur Carty Catholic elementary school in south London.

The London District Catholic school board confirmed on Thursday night one individual connected to the Ernest Avenue school tested positive for the virus. The board did not state whether the infected person was a student or staff member.

The school remains open and buses will run as normally scheduled.

All parents and staff within the school community have been notified, according to the board. The Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) is working to identify close contacts of the infected individual .

"The MLHU investigators will only contact students and staff identified as a close contacts. If someone is not contacted by the MLHU investigators, they are not considered to be at risk," the board said in a statement, adding that close contacts have been advised to stay home and quarantine.

The positive case at Sir Arthur Carty, is the Catholic school board's only active COVID-19 infection. It comes on the heels of six reported cases at five schools within the Thames Valley District school board. Since Saturday Thames Valley has confirmed cases at Lambeth public school, Wilton Grove public school, Northbrae public school, Eagle Heights public school, and South Ridge public school in Tillsonburg.
