London man taunts cops, loses foot chase

Police say a man is facing charges after an officer took him up on the challenge to "catch me if you can."

The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police were called at 1:42 a.m. Tuesday by a citizen who reported seeing a suspicious man on a property on Clarke Road in Middlesex Centre.

Officers responded to the area and found a man who then ran away. As he fled, he yelled "catch me if you can," according to police.

An officer got out of his cruiser and chased the man before catching him and taking him into custody. Police say a search of the man turned up a handgun, a knife, drugs, and over $50,000 in Canadian cash.

Tyler Faraj, 31, of London is charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, possession of cocaine, public mischief, resisting a peace officer, trespassing at night, and being intoxicated in a public place.

Police say he has been remanded in custody with a scheduled court date to answer to the charges.
