Public health officials in Elgin County say at least 31 people at a farm in Bayham have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, says the cases were all linked to living quarters at the farm. It says one person was taken to hospital with COVID-19 symptoms on Friday, October 30. That person tested positive and is still in hospital.
The positive test led Southwestern Public Health to ask for testing of everyone at the farm and their close contacts. A total of 157 tests were conducted. The health unit is still waiting for more test results to determine if there are more cases connected to this outbreak.
“We are still investigating and will share more details when they are available,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock. “Everyone is reminded to keep practicing physical distancing, handwashing, wearing a face covering, and stay home when feeling unwell, to help stop further spread in our communities.”
As of Monday, Southwestern Public Health had a total of 29 active cases of COVID-19 in Elgin and Oxford counties. The cases connected to the Bayham outbreak had not yet been added to the total.
