Eight new COVID-19 cases in London, Middlesex County

The number of COVID-19 cases in London and Middlesex County grew by eight on Sunday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said the eight new cases bring the total in the region since the start of the pandemic to 1,145. Of those, 1,029 are considered resolved. A total of 60 deaths have been reported, but none in a week.

There are five outbreaks among the area's long term care facilities and retirement residences. They are in effect at the Chartwell London long term care home, the Chartwell Royalcliffe retirement residence, County Terrance, Oakcrossing Retirement Living, and Strathmere Lodge.

The Ontario government reported 977 new cases on Sunday, along with nine deaths. Of the new cases, 279 are in Toronto, 238 in Peel, 120 in Ottawa, and 113 in York Region.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said that over 37,100 tests had been processed over the previous 24 hours. She added the number of resolved cases increased by 864.

The nine deaths reported Sunday bring the total in Ontario since the pandemic began to 3,145.
