Charges have been laid after a woman waiting to go inside of a St. Thomas homeless shelter was attacked.
St. Thomas police were called about the assault outside of the shelter on Wellington Street around 8 p.m. Wednesday night.
The woman was standing in the parking lot waiting to enter the facility when a man began kicking and punching her. The attack continued until shelter staff opened the door and ushered her inside, police said.
Officers arrived on scene and arrested a man without incident. A credit card that had been reported stolen from a vehicle last month was seized during a search.
A 45-year-old St. Thomas man is charged with one count each of assault and possession of stolen property.
