A 71-year-old man has become the second person in a week in London and Middlesex County to die of the coronavirus.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported the death on Wednesday. The health unit said the man was not linked to any long term facility or retirement home. His death comes after that of a 91-year-old man, whose death was reported last Thursday and was the first reported in London and Middlesex County since mid-June.
The health unit reported nine new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total in London and Middlesex County to 1,060 since the pandemic began. A total of 934 recoveries have been reported. There are currently 67 active cases in the community.
So far in October, 171 cases have been reported by the Middlesex London Health Unit. Only the month of April saw more cases reported locally. That month saw 341 cases reported.
Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, reported no new cases on Wednesday. It reported two recoveries, leaving an active case count of 16.
Ontario reported another 790 new cases Wednesday. Health Minister Christine Elliott said more than 32,000 tests were processed over the previous 24 hours. Nine deaths were also reported.
