Post-secondary students who live in north London are being told to lock their doors and windows after a string of break-ins at off-campus student housing.
Since September, there have been 13 residential break-ins at homes occupied by students in the north end of the city, London police said.
In most of the break-ins, thieves were able to get into the residences through unlocked or unsecured windows.
According to police, thieves will watch homes until residents leave and then bust in through the "easiest point of entry." They are now reminding all Londoners to keep doors and windows locked, even when at home.
Police also suggest installing contact alarms, good exterior lighting, functional security cameras, and sticks in window tracks.
"Remember, if you see something, say something – if we don’t know, we can’t go. Report all suspicious activity to police," police said in a statement.
