Five new COVID-19 cases in London-Middlesex

Local health officials have reported five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County.

The Middlesex London Health Unit says the new cases bring the region's total since the start of the pandmic to 1,009. Of the 1,009 people who have tested positive for the virus, 860 have recovered. There have been 57 deaths related to the coronavirus in the community, but none since June 12. There are 92 active cases in the region.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, reported two new cases on Wednesday for a total of 279. Just six cases are considered active.

Provincially, over 700 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday by the Ontario government. Officials say there were 721 new cases recorded over the last 24 hours, despite a drop in the number of tests.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says just over 32-thousand tests were processed.

Of the new cases, 270 were in Toronto, 170 were in Peel Region, and 39 were in Ottawa.
