Public health officials have confirmed a COVID-19 case at another school in the London area.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported Tuesday that a person at Northdale Central Public School in Dorchester has tested positive for the virus.
In a statement released Tuesday, the health unit said the person who tested positive was at the school when they were infectious. The Thames Valley District School Board said the school will remain open and school buses will continue to operate.
“If you are not contacted by the health unit, your child is not considered to be at risk,” said Thames Valley Education Director Mark Fisher. “The Health Unit will only contact those staff and students who have been identified as a close contacts. Close contacts are also being advised to stay home from school and quarantine for a period of 14 days.”
Due to privacy concerns, the health unit is not saying whether the infected person is a student or a member of the school's staff.
“While we are seeing more cases associated with schools, we have also seen a marked increase in the overall number of cases being diagnosed in London and Middlesex County. We know the second wave of the pandemic is here and that we all have to do our part to limit the further spread of the virus,” said Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Alex Summers. “We need to continue following the public health guidelines that have been in place, even if we’re tired of hearing them. This includes wearing a mask, staying home from work or school if you are ill and limiting close contact to only those in your household.”
The health unit announced Monday that another person at Sir Arthur Currie Public School tested positive, leading to a declaration of an outbreak at the school. There was also a case reported Monday at Mary Wright Public School in Strathroy.
