Southwestern Ontario's largest school board has unveiled a new webpage that will allow parents to see the number of COVID-19 cases within their child's school at a glance.
The Thames Valley District school board (TVDSB) launched the COVID-19 Alerts page after an individual at H.B. Beal Secondary School tested positive for the virus on Monday.
The page provides the number of confirmed cases within each of the board's elementary and high schools, as well as the number of classrooms closed as a result. There is also a section that indicates whether a school is closed due to an outbreak.
Currently, all schools within the board remain open.
Board officials have stated that parents, guardians, and staff will also be notified by letter of any positive COVID-19 cases within their school.
The case at Beal is the board's first confirmed infection. It has led to the closure of one class at the school.
Public health officials have not said whether the COVID positive individual is a student or staff member. They have said there is no evidence to suggest the virus was contracted at the school or is linked to last week's Western University outbreak.
Those in the Beal school community are being told to monitor for coronavirus symptoms.
