What's open, closed in London on Labour Day

The lazy days of summer are quickly coming to a close, but Londoners have one last long weekend to enjoy before returning to whatever their new routine looks like amid the ongoing pandemic.

Labour Day, often viewed as the final hurrah of the summer, is celebrated each year on the first Monday in September. It is a day to celebrate the labour union movement in the country.

As a statutory holiday, the day comes with a number of closures.

Below is a list of what’s open and closed in London on Labour Day:

CLOSED:

Government offices (municipal, provincial, and federal) Canada Post (no mail delivery) Malls (including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre) Banks LCBO Grocery stores Costco Wholesale London Public Library branches (digital library resources remain available) Most drug stores (Shoppers Drug Mart locations at 510 Hamilton Rd. and in Sherwood Forest Mall at 1225 Wonderland Rd. N will be open from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. The location at 1224 Commissioners Rd.W. will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

OPEN:

Labatt Retail Store on Horton St. – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Select Beer Stores (the London location at 414 Wharncliffe Rd. S will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) Fanshawe Conservation Area (for campsite availability call 1-866-668-2267) City spray pads – 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. (locations of the city’s spray pads can be found here) Movie theatres London COVID-19 Assessment Centres at Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre at 656 Elizabeth Street and Oakridge Arena at 825 Valetta Street.

The LTC will be running on a holiday schedule, but routes 90, 91, 102, 104 & 106 will not be operating.

The start of the new school year for children in both the Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic School Board has been pushed back until the week of September 14. Students will return to the classroom with staggered starts due to COVID-19 during that week.
