While Elgin and Oxford counties have not seen a new case of COVID-19 in over a week, three new infections were confirmed in London-Middlesex on Thursday.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said a Londoner in their 20s and two individuals from Lucan in their 30s tested positive for the virus over the last 24 hours. So far this week, the region has recorded seven new cases - zero Sunday, two Monday, zero Tuesday, two Wednesday, and three Thursday.
The case count now stands at 735.
Three more previously diagnosed individuals in the area recovered since Wednesday, increasing the number of resolved cases to 667. London and Middlesex County have not had any additional COVID-19 related deaths since June 12. The death toll remains at 57.
Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, continues its zero streak. It reported no new cases for the eighth day in a row. Its total number of cases since the pandemic began remains at 254. There were two more resolved cases reported on Thursday, bringing the total resolved case number to 244. The region has not seen a COVID-19 linked death since July 3.
Currently, there are five active cases of the virus between the two counties.
For an eighth consecutive day, Ontario reported more than 100 additional COVID-19 cases.
Public health officials said there have been 132 new infections over the past 24 hours. That is down one from Wednesday's 132 cases, but up from Tuesday's 112 and Monday's 114.
"Peel [Region] is reporting 45 new cases, with 31 in Toronto and 22 in Ottawa. Every other public health unit is reporting five or fewer cases, with 18 units reporting no new cases," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted.
Ontario’s total case count is now 42,686.
There were no additional COVID-19 deaths in the province Thursday, the second day in a row no one has died from the virus. That leaves the death toll at 2,812.
Sixty Ontarians are in hospital battling the virus. That includes 12 people in the intensive care unit, nine of whom are relying on a ventilator to breathe.
Total recoveries in Ontario rose to 38,625.
