Two new COVID-19 cases in London, zero in Elgin-Oxford

While Elgin and Oxford counties are marking their fifth straight day of zero new COVID-19 cases, London and Middlesex County are reporting two new infections.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said the two new laboratory-confirmed cases Monday bring the region's total case count to 730. The slight increase comes a day after zero additional cases were recorded in the area.

It has been nearly three months since London and Middlesex had a COVID-19 related death, leaving the death toll unchanged at 57.

Three more local people previously diagnosed with the virus have since recovered. That brings the total number of resolved cases to 655.

The health unit will be holding its second virtual COVID-19 townhall at 7 p.m. on Monday. The 90-minute online meeting will include a presentation from Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Alex Summers and a question and answer period.

A link to the meeting is posted on the health unit’s COVID-19 webpage at www.healthunit.com/novel-coronavirus.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, there has not been a new COVID-19 case since last Wednesday when six cases were reported. Southwestern Public Health, the region's health unit, said the area has seen a total of 254 cases since the start of the pandemic. Of those, only 12 are active.

There has been a total of 237 resolved cases and five deaths related to the virus in the area. No new deaths have been reported since July 3.

Ontario reported more than 100 additional COVID-19 cases on Monday, the fifth consecutive day new infections have been in the triple-digits.

Public health officials said there have been 114 new cases over the past 24 hours. That follows 112 new cases on Sunday and 148 new cases on Saturday.

Of the province's 34 public health units, 30 reported five or fewer cases. Eighteen had zero new infections. The bulk of Monday's cases were in Toronto, Ottawa, and Peel Region.

Ontario's total case count is now 42,309.

There was one additional death in the province since Sunday. That brings the death toll up to 2,811.

Forty-nine Ontarians are in hospital battling the virus. That includes 18 people in the intensive care unit, nine of whom are relying on a ventilator to breathe.

Total recoveries in Ontario sit at 38,277
