Man killed in single-vehicle crash northeast of London

One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a cluster of trees northeast of London on Monday morning.

The vehicle was travelling on Prospect Hill Road at 8 Mile Road in Thames Centre when it left the roadway and collided with multiple trees just after 5 a.m.

"As a result, the male driver and lone occupant was extricated from the vehicle and transported to local area hospital where that driver later died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision," said Middlesex County Constable Kevin Howe.

OPP have not released the man's name or age.

Prospect Hill between Thorndale and Nine Mile roads was closed for nearly six hours while the West Region OPP technical traffic collision investigation team worked to determine the cause of the collision. The roadway was reopened shortly before 1 p.m.

"It does appear that speed was a factor in this collision," said Howe.

He noted that, so far this year, the number of people killed in collisions on Middlesex County roads has surpassed the number recorded in all of 2019.

"We are really trying to get the message across to the public to slow down and arrive at their destination safely," said Howe. "It is sunny, it is clear, the road conditions are optimal and here we are dealing with another fatal collision and another family that has lost someone in their life."
