The weather agency issued the watch Wednesday morning and said conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms.
Wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour, hail, and heavy rain were possible, Environment Canada said.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
