One new COVID-19 case in London-Middlesex, none in Elgin-Oxford

There was one additional case of COVID-19 reported in the London area on Monday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said just one more person had tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours. That is down from Sunday when two new cases were recorded and up from zero on Saturday.

The total number of cases in London-Middlesex now sits at 722.

There were no new recoveries since Sunday, leaving the total number of resolved cases at 632.

The London region has not had a COVID-19 related death since June 12. The death toll stands at 57.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, there were zero new infections reported on Monday. The area's total case count is unchanged at 247. Southwestern Public Health, the health unit that covers the two counties, has resumed reporting its daily COVID-19 figures through its online dashboard. It had been offline since late last week as the health unit shifted to a new database. The number of recoveries in Elgin and Oxford is 215. The death toll has remained at five, since July 3.

Provincially, more than 100 new cases were confirmed on Monday. This is the fourth straight day Ontario's day-to-day tally reached three figures.

Public health officials said there were an additional 105 people who tested positive over the last 24 hours. That brings the province's total number of cases to 41,507. Monday's case count is less than Sunday's when 115 new infections were reported.

"Locally, 30 of Ontario’s 34 public health units are reporting five or fewer cases, with 19 reporting no new cases," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted.

The majority of the new cases were in individuals between the ages of 20 and 50.

Total resolved cases rose by 78 to 37,673.

There was one additional death reported on Monday, bringing the Ontario death toll to 2,798.

Hospitalizations remain low with 40 people in hospital. Of those, 12 are in the intensive care unit and seven are using a ventilator to breathe.

Over the past 24 hours, the province has processed an additional 18,790 COVID-19 tests.
