London to extend two-hour free parking

To continue helping local businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of London is extending two-hour free parking in the city's core.

Motorists are able to park for free for up to two hours at all municipal on-street parking meters and municipal lots in London’s core, which includes the downtown and Old East Village, until September 30.

“In a time when supporting local matters most, we made the decision to extend this initiative until the end of September based on the success of the campaign thus far," said Mayor Ed Holder in a news release.

Free municipal parking has been utilized 2,300 times since the service was first offered by the city in July.

Motorists who wish to take advantage of the free parking will need to download the HonkMobile app and enter the promotional code "B2B20".

While free parking will remain free through the app, the city will be resuming normal enforcement of parking bylaws starting Friday.  The city had previously eased enforcement in recognition of the additional challenges posed by COVID-19.

The parking initiative is being funded through the City of London’s Core Area Action Plan, which was developed to generate new growth and investment in the city's core.
