Thumb tacks, sewing needles found on Woodstock playground

Woodstock city workers made a disturbing discovery during a recent routine check of playground equipment in Southside Park.

Several thumb tacks and sewing needles were found on the swings, the bottom of a slide, and on other play equipment in the park.

"Staff closed the playground immediately to execute a thorough inspection and clean up. Woodstock police were notified," reads a post on the city's Facebook page.

This is the second act of vandalism at the park this summer. Earlier this month, workers found nails spread throughout the cricket pitch and nearby playing area in Southside Park. Police were also notified about that discovery.

As a precaution, the city has stepped up playground and park inspections. However, as city staff are unable to scan every park prior to public usage each day, park-goers are advised to be diligent and aware of this recent "disturbing" trend.

Anyone who finds similar items or spots suspicious behaviour in the park is asked to call 519-539-2382 ext. 4101.
