It was like deja vu for first responders on Friday morning -- a vehicle crashed into a home, a gas line severed.
Emergency crews were called after a vehicle hit a house on Grey Street between Colborne and Waterloo streets, rupturing a gas line around 6:15 a.m.
The collision came on the one-year anniversary of the Old East Village explosion which happened after a vehicle crashed into a home on Woodman Avenue, severing a gas line.
Friday's incident saw all of the homes along the one-block stretch evacuated as a precaution.
"There was initial concern for the public to evacuate and leave the area, but we don't expect a Woodman-type incident," said Platoon Chief Shawn Fitzgerald. "The gas is venting into the atmosphere, it is not being contained within a building."
He added that Woodman Avenue was definitely on the minds of firefighters as they rushed to the scene on Grey Street.
"There is always the thought in the back of the fire crew's mind of Woodman, especially being the one year anniversary. They responded quickly, they moved a few steps quicker and got the evacuation going. So there is concern, but we were able to manage the situation quite quickly," said Fitzgerald.
No one was injured.
There were initial reports the driver of the vehicle was trapped inside, but when fire crews arrived on scene the individual was gone.
London police have not made any arrests in relation to the crash.
"We are still sorting through the details to figure out exactly what took place. We’re asking for any information from the public," said Constable Sandasha Bough.
Workers from Enbridge were called in to shut the gas off to the area and repair the line.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 9:30 a.m. Grey Street between Colborne and Waterloo remains closed to all traffic.
