City expanding Dundas Place road closure hours

Londoners calling for more vehicle-free time on Dundas Place are getting their wish.

The City of London announced Friday morning that it is extending the hours of the pilot project that sees Dundas Place closed to vehicular traffic on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

According to the city, Dundas Street will be closed to vehicles between Talbot Street and Wellington Street from Friday at 4 p.m. until Saturday at 5 a.m. and between Saturday at 4 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

When the project launched late last month, the closures were in effect from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

"The extended road closure hours are intended to support patio opportunities for businesses on Dundas Place, and to provide visitors more space for physical distancing," the city said in Friday's news release. "The changes come after City staff have monitored the previous weekends’ road closures and collected feedback from the Downtown London BIA and businesses."

The city said the temporary loading zones for businesses that were added nearby when the pilot project launched will be adjusted to reflect the new road closure times.

"While Dundas Place is open, health measures remain in place to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Please continue to maintain physical distancing and follow all social gathering guidelines," the city said.
