Two new COVID-19 cases in London-Middlesex

There were two new COVID-19 cases reported in London-Middlesex on Thursday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said two more people tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours. The new cases bring the region's total since the start of the pandemic to 693. Resolved cases went up by two since Wednesday, bringing the total number of local recoveries to 619.

London and Middlesex County have not recorded a virus-related death since June. The death toll is unchanged at 57.

There are no current outbreaks at local care facilities.

Southwestern Public Health reported three new COVID-19 cases for the second straight day. It follows roughly two weeks of increased daily infections that added 68 cases to the area's total case count since August 1. Elgin and Oxford counties' case total stands at 220. There was a drop in active cases as five more people recovered from the virus. The number of resolved cases is now at 157. There were no deaths reported, leaving the death toll at five.

Provincially, the case count was down, but with a catch.

Public health officials reported 78 new lab-confirmed cases on Thursday.

However, Health Minister Christine Elliott was quick to point out that figure did not include data from Toronto.

"Updated numbers from the Toronto Public Health CORES system were not available," Elliott said in a tweet.

With the exception of Monday, Ontario's new cases have been under 100 each day. They hit their lowest level since March 18 on Tuesday with just 33 new infections.

Twenty-eight of the province's 34 public health units reported five or fewer cases on Thursday. Ontario's total case count is now 40,367.

Over the past 24 hours, there were no new deaths in the province, leaving the death toll at 2,787.

Recoveries jumped by 99 to 36,689.

Currently, 43 people remain in Ontario hospitals battling COVID-19. Of those, 20 are in the intensive care unit, and 10 are on ventilators to help them breathe.

Health officials conducted 29,626 tests for the virus over the last 24 hours.
