Zero new COVID-19 cases in London-Middlesex, a dozen in Elgin-Oxford

While Elgin and Oxford counties are dealing with another double-digit increase of new COVID-19 cases, London and Middlesex County saw no new infections on Tuesday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said no one has tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours. That leaves the area's total number of cases since the start of the pandemic unchanged at 679. Over the long weekend, London and Middlesex only saw five new cases -- three on Monday and one each on Sunday and Saturday.

Three more people previously diagnosed with COVID-19 have since recovered, bringing the area's total number of resolved cases to 591. The death toll is unchanged at 57. There has not been a death related to the virus locally since June 12.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, the number of new day-to-day cases appear to be on the rise.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for the two counties, reported 12 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. That follows 23 additional lab-confirmed cases recorded over the three day weekend. That region's total case count now sits at 178.

There were three new recoveries reported over the past 24 hours, raising the number of resolved cases to 94. No additional deaths have been recorded since July 3.

Ontario saw under 100 new COVID-19 cases both Monday and Tuesday.

Public health officials said there were 88 new infections on Monday and 91 on Tuesday. The majority of those who tested positive for the virus over the two day period are between the ages of 20 and 59.

The two days of fewer than 100 daily new cases come after 116 cases were confirmed Sunday and 124 confirmed on Saturday.

Ontario's total number of cases is now 39,628.

Four additional deaths were reported over the past two days, raising the province's death toll to 2,782. There were 242 more recoveries Monday and Tuesday, increasing the total resolved cases to 35,601.

Monday's daily COVID-19 numbers were held back until Tuesday due to the Civic holiday.

The province also announced on Tuesday it would not be advancing Windsor-Essex into Stage 3 of its reopening plan.

"Windsor-Essex will remain in Stage 2 as we continue to support local efforts to stop the spread of #COVID19," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted.

It remains the only region in the province not to enter Stage 3.
