Public health officials in London and Middlesex County say another five people have tested positive for COVID-19.
The figure released Friday brings the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 674. Of those, the Middlesex London Health Unit says there have been 586 recoveries. Once again, no new deaths were reported, so the death toll remains at 57. There has not been a COVID-19 related death reported in London or Middlesex County since June 12.
Southwestern Public Health, which covers Elgin and Oxford counties, reported six new cases on Friday. It has recorded a spike in cases in recent days, reporting 14 new cases on Thursday, eight on Wednesday, two on Tuesday, and seven on Monday.
After two days of reporting fewer than 100 new cases, provincial health officials reported 134 new cases on Friday. That brings the total in Ontario since the pandemic began to 39,209. A total of 35,074 people have recovered after being infected with the virus, while 2,775 people have died.
"Today, Ontario is reporting 134 cases of #COVID19, a 0.3% increase," tweeted Health Minister Christine Elliott. "While a slight uptick over the past two days, 28 of 34 PHUs are reporting five or fewer cases, with 16 of them reporting no new cases. Of today's new cases, 26 are in Ottawa with 24 in Windsor-Essex."
Elliott said the last 24 hours have seen 168 cases resolved, so there are 34 fewer active cases in Ontario. She added hospitalizations continue to decline. Over 30,000 tests were processed on Thursday, according to Elliott.
