YMCA to reopen select gyms, offer free outdoor classes

YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is trying to get people moving again.

The registered charity is launching free outdoor classes and free indoor workout access at select locations across the region through a sign-up process.

The free workouts come as the YMCA works to reopen its health and fitness sites. As of August 21, some of the organization's health facilities and gyms will begin to welcome visitors back while adhering to strict public health guidelines. The number of individuals using the space at one time will be limited.

All of the YMCA’s locations across southwestern Ontario were closed March 15 due to the global outbreak of COVID-19. Its day camps returned at most sites last month.

Gyms were given the go ahead to reopen under Stage 3 of the provincial government's reopening plan.

Until the Y's sites are officially back open, membership fees will remain on hold.

Reopening dates for each YMCA site will be provided on the organization's newly designed website www.ymcaswo.ca.
