Train, tractor collision sends one to hospital

One person is in hospital after a tractor hauling a load of hay collided with a train south of Mt. Elgin.

Emergency crews were called to Daniel Road west of Plank Line in South-West Oxford Tuesday afternoon after the green tractor and wagon were hit by a freight train. The train pushed the tractor onto its side a short distance down the tracks before coming to a stop.

The farmer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Oxford OPP.

The rail crossing is not equipped with safety arms or lights, but does have a crossbuck with a stop sign affixed to it.

Daniel Road between Plank Line and Dereham Line is closed while police continue to investigate the collision and remove debris from the road. Police don't expect to reopen the dirt road until Monday evening.
