London and Oxford-Elgin each report one new COVID-19 case

Public health officials in London and Middlesex County have confirmed just one additional person has tested positive for COVID-19 since Tuesday.

The newly confirmed case brings the area's total number of cases to 611 since the start of the pandemic. The new case is not tied to local retirement or long-term care homes.

The Middlesex London Health Unit also reported another increase in the number of people who have recovered from the virus. Four more cases were resolved as of Wednesday for a total of 487 local recoveries.

The two institutional outbreaks remain at Westmount Gardens and Peoplecare Oak Crossing.

There have not been any additional COVID-19 related deaths reported in the London-area since June 12. The death toll remains at 57.

Elgin and Oxford counties, which are represented by Southwestern Public Health, saw one new case of COVID-19 confirmed over the past 24 hours. The region's total case count remains under 100, with just 83 confirmed cases since January. The death toll remains at four, with no additional deaths since April 22. Seventy-six cases have been resolved, an increase of two since Tuesday.

Ontario is once again back under 200 new cases of COVID-19.

Public health officials reported 163 new lab-confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday. The slight decrease in day-to-day cases comes after 216 people were diagnosed with the virus on Tuesday.

All but four of the province's health units reported five or fewer cases on Wednesday, a new 'high', according to Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott

"Locally, fully 30 of Ontario’s 34 public health units are reporting five or fewer cases today, a new high, with 16 of them reporting no new cases at all. That’s welcome news as we continue to safely and gradually reopen the province," Elliott tweeted.

Toronto and Peel Region entered Stage 2 of the government's reopening plan on Wednesday, leaving only Windsor-Essex as the lone region in Ontario in Stage 1.

Since the start of the outbreak, Ontario has recorded a total of 34,016 cases. There have been 2,631 COVID-19 related deaths across the province, including 12 more reported over the past 24 hours.

Another 229 people infected with the virus have now recovered, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 29,336.

The province conducted 23,207 tests for the virus over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests completed since January to 1,236,023.
