Three more people in the London region have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Middlesex London Health Unit confirmed the three additional cases on Friday. None of them are linked to area long-term care homes or retirement facilities. They bring the city and county's total number of cases since the pandemic began to 603.
It has now been one week since the health unit reported any deaths related to the virus in this area. The death toll remains at 57.
There was one additional outbreak of COVID-19 confirmed at a London long-term care home. Health officials declared the outbreak at Westmount Gardens over the past 24 hours. There are also ongoing outbreaks at Kensington Village and Peoplecare Oak Crossing.
Five more people previously diagnosed with the virus have seen recovered, bringing the region's number of resolved cases to 470.
For the second day in a row, Southwestern Public health, which represents Elgin and Oxford counties, hasn't seen any lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. That area's total number of cases stands at 82, with all but 11 resolved. There have been no additional deaths in either county since April 22, when the death toll reached four.
Provincially, Ontario is inching closer to making it a full week with fewer than 200 new COVID-19 cases reported daily.
Public health officials said on Friday there were 178 new confirmed cases across the province, the sixth day in a row the numbers have been below 200. Ontario has now recorded a total of 33,095 cases of the virus since January.
The number of resolved cases increased by 246, to 28,250.
"We continue to see a persistent decline in active cases, with 68 fewer active cases [Friday]," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted.
She went on to applaud the province's increased testing efforts.
"Having processed over 27,000 tests [Thursday], Ontario continues to lead the country in daily #COVID19 testing. With a population more than three times their size, we’re very quickly catching up to Alberta in cumulative tests per capita, the only province ahead of Ontario," said Elliott.
The province's death toll increased by 11 on Friday and now sits at 2,564.
