Charges have been laid against a man accused of scamming multiple people out of cash in mall parking lots and apartment buildings throughout London.
In late April, London police reported that a man had been approaching strangers and asking for money to pay for towing. The man promised to repay the victims through an e-transfer, but once the money was received, the man cut off all communication and did not return the cash.
Several people went to police to report being duped by the suspect and investigators believed there were more victims in the city.
On Thursday, police announced that Jesse James Edwards, 27, of London is charged with 12 counts of fraud under $5,000 and 11 counts of possession of proceeds obtained by crime.
Police have a warrant for his arrest.
Anyone with information in relation to the accused’s whereabouts is asked to call the London Police Service at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
