Health unit reports nine new COVID-19 cases

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in London and Middlesex County has surpassed 400.

The Middlesex London Health Unit reported nine new cases of the virus on Thursday, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 402. Of those, 220 have been resolved.

The health unit also reported another death from the virus. According to the health unit, the man in his 80s was not a resident of a long term care facility or retirement home. His death brings the local death toll from the coronavirus to 37. Twenty of the deaths have been associated with long term care facilities or retirement homes.

The London Health Sciences Centre has 27 people confirmed to have the virus in its care, nine of whom are in intensive care.

Provincial health officials reported another 459 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the Ontario total to 16,187. Another 86 deaths were reported, which is the biggest one day increase in reported deaths in the province since the pandemic began. The Ontario death toll now stands at 1,082.
