Police identify victim of fatal fire

A 67-year-old Norfolk County man has been identified as the person killed in an apartment fire in downtown Simcoe.

A Norfolk OPP officer was on patrol when he spotted flames coming from the apartment on Culver Street at around 10 p.m. on April 20. The officer was able to pull a resident from a ground floor apartment on the property. However, police were unable to gain entry to the second floor due to the fire.

Volunteer firefighters arrived at the scene to battle the blaze and found a man on the second floor. A family dog was also found dead.

The man found in the apartment, 67-year-old Donald Gordon Adams, was rushed to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

Foul play is not suspected in the fire and the death is not being treated as suspicious. An investigation into the incident, with assistance from the Ontario Fire Marshal's office, has since been completed.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
