Agencies team up to help dog owners

Dog owners who are struggling financially during the COVID-19 related economic slowdown are being offered help by a couple of local agencies.

Humane Society London & Middlesex and Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario are working together to give away 738 bags of dog food. The food is being distributed by the No Empty Bowls Food Bank.

“Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario reached out to us to contribute the large quantity of dog food to support our recent Virtual Food Drive,” said HSLM Executive Director Steve Ryall. “The dog food falls outside of the three specific brands we feed the shelter animals, so we collaborated to have the food delivered to No Empty Bowls Food Bank, who we donate food and other supplies to on a regular basis.”

The No Empty Bowls Food Bank provides pet food to people in the London area who are experiencing economic hardship in order to help them keep their pets, rather than having to re-home them.

According to the humane society, the dog food will be sent to the London Food Bank, Ailsa Craig Food Bank, Unity Project, St. Joe's Soup Kitchen, Ice Foundation Dog Rescue, London Salvation Army, Woodstock Salvation Army, Stratford Salvation Army and the Caring Cupboard Food Bank in St. Thomas. Pet owners will be able to pick up the goods at no cost.
