Canada Life laying off 85 employees in three cities

Insurance giant Canada Life is cutting nearly 100 jobs in three different cities across the country, including London.

In total, 85 layoff notices have gone out to employees in London, Montreal, and Winnipeg. But it is not yet known how that number breaks down in each of the affected cities.

The company stated the decision to layoff staff was the result of a new partnership with Winnipeg-based telemarketing company 24-7 Intouch Solution.

"[It's] a change which will provide greater flexibility in servicing our customers in both official languages," Canada Life Senior Vice President Diane Bezdikian said in a statement. "24-7 has the tools and infrastructure to provide longer service hours for our customers."

Bezdikian went on to state that the move aims to help Canada Life adjust to shifting customer demographics, attitudes, and behaviours.

The job cuts come nearly a year after a dramatic rebranding measure that saw London Life, Great-West Life Assurance Company, and Canada Life Assurance Company come together under the Canada Life umbrella. The company employs more than 11,000 people at five main offices in London, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, and Regina, as well as smaller offices throughout the country.
