Ilderton man faces gun charges after silencers found in the mail

Several charges have been laid after a mailed parcel containing a pair of firearm silencers tipped off police to a stash of illegal guns in Ilderton.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers seized a package at the International Mail Processing Centre in the Greater Toronto Area that contained the two firearm suppressors, which are prohibited devices.

The seizure led to an interagency investigation and on February 20, the Ontario Provincial Police, the CBSA and the London Police Service raided a home in Ilderton, where they found stolen property, six long guns, four handguns, three firearm suppressors and a full auto selector switch, along with assorted ammunition.

As a result, Adam Christopher Agostinelli, 33, of Ilderton has been charged with two counts of importing a prohibited device, two counts of possession of a prohibited device, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime.  He also faces further charges under the Customs Act, which include attempting to smuggle,  possession of illegally imported goods and evasion of compliance. Agostinelli is scheduled to appear in a London court on April 20.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
