Homemade explosives seized in Woodstock

Charges have been laid against a Woodstock man accused of making homemade pipe bombs.

Woodstock police received information about a man inside a home on Winniett Street with suspicious materials commonly used for crafting explosives around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Officers evacuated several homes on the street as a precaution before searching the suspect home.

A man was arrested on Dover Street in relation to the investigation a few hours later. Police also searched and removed several items from a second Woodstock home and a vehicle in Ingersoll.

A 38-year-old unidentified Woodstock man is now charged with five offences including possession of an explosive device, possession of an explosive substance, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Those evacuated from homes on Winniett Street have since been allowed to return to their residences.
