Annual food drive coming up short in final week

After two decades of helping London's less fortunate, organizers of an annual food drive are reaching out to the local community for a little help reaching their goal.

The Business Cares Food Drive is need of more donations to reach its goal of 443,000 pounds of non-perishable food items before the campaign comes to an end on Friday, when the donations are delivered to the London Food Bank.

The three-week campaign has managed to increase the amount of donations it has received each holiday season, but the food drive could be miss the mark in its 20th year.

"Every year the generosity of the London community is inspiring," said Business Cares campaign chair Wayne Dunn, in a news release. "However, we still need donations to achieve our goal to help the many individuals and families in need. We have our fingers crossed that the campaign will get some nice surprises between now and Friday morning."

Volunteers will be picking up food and cash monetary donations from more than 500 London-based companies and organizations that take part in Business Cares Food Drive. However, organizers feel this still won't be enough and are asking those who are able to pitch in where they can.

Food, cash,  or cheque donations can be dropped off this week at the Business Cares Headquarters at 1275 Hubrey Rd. in London, or those with donations can call 519-661-9803 to arrange pick-ups. Donations may also be made online at businesscares.ca. Cheques should be made out to "London and Area Food Bank/Business Cares."
