Police in Strathroy-Caradoc are urging people to do a little research before donating to online fundraising campaigns.
The warning comes after police were notified about tribute pages set up for Cody Barron without his family's authorization.
Barron died suddenly on November 5. His death was deemed not suspicious.
The young man's family has since told police they appreciate the online tributes to him, but stressed that there is no fundraising campaign for them in their son's name.
The family has also asked for privacy, police said.
As a result of this incident, police are reminding the public to use caution and further investigate online campaigns that ask for donations.
