Man extorted over private pictures and video

Police are issuing a warning about extortion after a woman threatened to release intimate photos and web chat video of a Norfolk County man.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Sunday, the man met the woman online and the two began a video chat, during which he was convinced to expose himself.  When the video chat was ended, the woman demanded that the man pay her around $4,500 or she would send the photos and video to the victim's family, as well as all of his social media contacts and various social media websites.

The man immediately called police, who are now investigating the incident.

"Police are urging all computer users to be aware of the dangers of engaging in online web chats where explicit conversations and photographs are shared. Once it's out there, you can't get it back," said Inspector Joseph Varga, Norfolk County OPP detachment commander, in a news release.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
