Crash involving parked vehicle leads to drunk driving charges

A 45-year-old St. Thomas woman is accused of having nearly twice the legal amount of alcohol in her system when her minivan slammed into the back of a parked pickup truck.

St. Thomas police were called to the two-vehicle collision on Forest Avenue between First and Park avenues around 2 a.m. on Friday.

The van driver, a 45-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No one was inside the pickup truck at the time of the crash.

According to police, a breath sample indicated the woman had close to twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

She has since been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.
