OPP holding joint training exercise in London and Middlesex

A joint training exercise led by OPP will bring nearly 20 local, provincial, and national emergency services to London and Middlesex County over the next two days.

The realistic, multi-jurisdiction training exercise involves various tactical units, materials, resources, and locations. The exercise, taking place Wednesday and Thursday, allows agencies and personnel a chance to practice their response during an emergency situation.

If members of the public encounter those involved in the training exercise, they should not be alarmed.

"In the interests of participant safety, the media and the public are strongly urged to adhere to directions being provided by perimeter signage and security personnel until the exercise has been completed," OPP said in a statement.

Police are asking the public to refrain from calling 911 to inquire about what is happening at the various training exercise locations. Updates about the training will be shared on social media, police added.

Local, provincial, and federal first responders and non-government agencies taking part include the following:

London Police Service London Fire Department Middlesex - London Emergency Medical Services St. Joseph's Health Care London London Health Sciences Centre City of London Middlesex County Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Fanshawe College Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General Office of the Chief Coroner Ontario Forensic Pathologist Services Centre of Forensic Sciences Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Provincial Security Advisor Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Canada Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) Public Safety Canada, and Transport Canada
